The Atlantic Foods Group
Offsets 682 Tonnes of
Carbon Dioxide
The Story So Far
The Atlantic Foods Group, leaders in sourcing the finest products from around the world has offset over 682 tonnes of carbon dioxide, through supporting energy efficiency projects in Africa.
During the last two years the group has followed a CarbonZero commitment, taking steps to minimise its carbon footprint and offset the remainder by working with carbon management company, co2balance on their African Energy Efficient Stove Project. The project builds energy saving cooking stoves for families along the coastal region of Mombasa in Kenya, which replace fuel intensive, open fires and reduce the amount of firewood needed for cooking by over 50%, thereby preventing the release of carbon emissions through the reduction in burning firewood.
Nigel Parkes, Group Marketing Director, Atlantic Foods explains,
"Reducing environmental impact is an important issue to both us and our customers. We are proud to be a CarbonZero company and to support worthwhile projects such as the African Energy Efficient Stove Project that not only make a positive contribution towards halting climate change but benefit the people of Mombasa."
As well as benefiting the environment, the African Energy Efficient Stove Project
also has social and financial benefits to the community. The stoves are
built locally to create employment, reduce the need and therefore time
spent collecting firewood as well as the impact of deforestation.
